Flooring Calculator

Calculate the square footage of flooring needed for your project. Works for tile, laminate, or hardwood, including a vital waste factor.

How to use this calculator

Measure your room's width and length to find the total area. It is crucial to add a waste factor to account for cuts, mistakes, and board selection. See our Measuring Guide for tips.

Understanding Your HomeCalc Pro Flooring Results

Once you have your measurements, the HomeCalc Pro flooring calculator provides two key numbers to guide your purchase. Understanding these results is crucial for staying on budget and avoiding material shortages.

Total Flooring Required (with Waste)

This is the most important number. It represents the actual amount of flooring material you should purchase. It is your room's raw square footage plus the "waste factor" you selected. This extra material is not optional; it's required to account for cuts, mistakes, and unusable pieces.

Estimated Boxes to Buy

If you enter the square footage covered by one box of flooring (found on the product packaging), this number tells you exactly how many boxes to buy. Always round this number up to the nearest whole box. It's far better to have a few extra planks left over than to be one box short.
